The Memphis Grizzlies would need to issue a four million and change offer to restrict Austin Daye’s free agency. They will not do this. Daye has been a non-entity since the multi team deal in January that sent Rudy Gay to Toronto, Jose Calderon to Detroit and Tayshaun Prince to Memphis.
While I could never see the Grizzlies paying $4 million for a player that averages four points a game, I could see them paying a little more for veteran forward that can come off the bench for 10-15 minutes at a time and score 10 points and six rebounds. Although the aging Landry wouldn’t exactly add youth to the Grizzlies already old frontcourt, he represents the same kind of “grit and grind” play that Memphis prides themselves on.
