Golden State Warriors: Draymond Green Update

Per a new interview with Marcus Thompson from the San Jose Mercury New, Draymond Green has lost 20 pounds. The Golden State Warriors locker room preacher and lockdown defender is looking too add a little more to his plate. The Michigan State product got as high as 248 pounds last season and is now around 231 pounds.

Green has indicated that his new build will allow him to be more explosive at the top of the key. In his own words, he will be able to stop “going slow” through open lanes. He also indicated that despite his losing 20 pounds, he has become stronger and has retained his ability to defend both the small forward and power forward position. Green had this to say about his recent transformation

“I catch my breath faster. I move a little faster. I can get up off the floor a little bit better. And it feels a lot better on my knees. I feel great. I think it’s going to help me out a lot.”

Green credits his weight loss to an improved diet and weight training. He also plans to hire a private chef to keep him on a healthy diet, as he knows he will be prone to slipping up and enjoying junk food.

Hopefully Green’s dedication, both to his new diet and to a bigger role to the team will survive the test of time. The rookie logged just 13.4 minuter per game in the 2012-13 season, but saw an increase in the playoffs where he played 18.6 minutes. Coach Mark Jackson is also a big fan of Green so expect him to average at least 15 minutes this season.
