Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut was suspended one game for his role in a scuffle between the Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night.
It started after a made basket by Wesley Matthews, when Andrew Bogut and Blazers center Joel Freeland got tangled up in the paint. Freeland had a grasp of Bogut’s arm, and the Aussie forcibly separated himself from Freeland. Everything seemed to be settling down until Mo Williams approached Bogut, and LaMarcus Aldridge gave a shove to the Warriors’ center.
Then, the fracas began as it spilled over to the area near the Warriors’ bench. Draymond Green and Bogut went after Williams and Aldridge as the referees and coaches from both teams tried to calm things down. Matthews also jumped into the melee. There was a whole lot of pushing and shoving, but no punches were thrown.
After everyone was separated, the referees went the monitor and ejected Matthews, Williams, and Green from the game. Bogut and Aldridge were assessed technical fouls.
The league also suspended Williams for one game, and assessed fines to the other players involved: $45,000 for Aldridge and $20,000 for both Matthews and Green.
Bogut will miss the Warriors’ next game, which will be against the Pelicans on Tuesday.
