It’s the matchup that everyone has been looking forward to all season: the Golden State Warriors taking on the Los Angeles Clippers in a best-of-seven playoff series.
These are two teams that have some obvious distaste for one another, whether it’s refusing to attend pre-game chapel together or pushing, shoving, and punch-throwing during the game. It may not be a deep rivalry just yet, considering the gloomy history of the two franchise, but this could definitely be the start of something.
Aside, from being the lower seed, the Warriors enter the series shorthanded, as center Andrew Bogut is expected to miss the entire series with a rib fracture. The loss of Bogut means the Warriors will have to depend on the likes of David Lee and Jermaine O’Neal to stop Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, which certainly spells trouble.
But keep in mind that the Warriors have the best shooting backcourt in the league in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. If these two — especially Curry — can get hot, as they did in the playoffs last year, the Warriors are more than capable of pulling off the upset.
Winning Game 1 would be a huge confident boost, especially for the road team. The Warriors have not beaten the Clippers at Staples Center in the regular season, but they will have to if they want to advance in the playoffs.
