Warriors are (finally) the best team in basketball

The Golden State Warriors are the best team in basketball.

Read that again.

Read it once more if you

lived

suffered through the last 40 years of Warriors basketball.

Read it as many times as you want because that’s how awesome it feels. Long gone are the days of the horrid Chris Cohan ownership, Don Nelson chaos, and D-League talent.

Once the joke of the NBA, the Dubs are finally on the rise. The whole franchise is moving upwards and into uncharted territory. The talk around the team is no longer about potentially getting a high pick in the draft, but about the team’s championship aspirations.

As a 12-year-old during the We Believe year, there was nothing anyone could have said to convince me that the Warriors weren’t the best team in the league. The following year, when the Warriors missed the postseason with 48 wins, I was s till sure they were the best. Heck, even the following year when they only won 29 games, I was sure that it was bad luck keeping the Warriors from winning.

Aside from a few years, Warriors fans have had to find silver linings. “[Insert name here] has potential!” we’d all say. For the most part, those guys never really had that much potential. Or the coaching staff didn’t know how to help them fulfill it. I’m not exactly sure, but either way they didn’t succeed for one reason or another.

The Bay Area has shown that it loves Warriors basketball. Despite filling the seats and creating the beast known as “Roaracle,” the product on the court hasn’t reflected the passion from the fans.  Generations of Warriors fans have only experienced losing and mediocrity. Though the Warriors have found ways to be exciting through up-tempo, high-scoring styles of play, it hasn’t translated to wins.

Though it looks like finally, in 2014, the Golden State Warriors have finally put it together. With Joe Lacob calling the shots in the offices and Stephen Curry calling the shots on the court, Golden State is finally a serious threat in the NBA. The Warriors have been making moves that, at the moment, seemed small, but have come together beautifully. What the Warriors have done in the draft the past few years is impressive; bringing in talent like Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Harrison Barnes. Once a team that couldn’t keep or attract players, the Warriors have made themselves an attractive destination for All-Star talent like David Lee and Andre Iguodala and strong role players like Shaun Livingston and Leandro Barbosa. Golden State is only going to make itself more attractive for potential free a gens with the eventual move to San Francisco.

This Warriors core is breaking and setting franchise records like there’s no tomorrow. Curry will go down as one of the greatest players to ever play for this franchise. He and Thompson will break all of the team’s 3-point records. The team is setting franchise records for winning.

In this competitive Western Conference, there’s no guarantee that the Warriors will win a championship or even remain on top of the standings. However, it’s safe to say that the franchise and team are finally good. The Warriors may not be the best team in the league in a month or two months or at the end of the season, but they are now. The fact that we can even have this discussion is awesome. It’s weird, but I love it. The way this team plays makes all those years of going to the lottery and failing worth it.

So, enjoy it Warriors fans. You deserve it. Your Golden State Warriors are (currently) the best team in the NBA.
