Warriors’ Streak Ending a Blessing in Disguise?

After their first loss of the season, are the Golden State Warriors set to play even better than before?

After 24 regular season games that were full of blowouts, nail-biters, and amazing come-from-behind wins, the Golden State Warriors’ undefeated streak finally reached its conclusion as Golden State fell to the Milwaukee Bucks, 108-95.

With their final game of a 7-game road trip, including playing back-to-back after defeating the Celtics in double overtime, fatigue was clearly present as the Warriors seemed physically unable to facilitate another comeback that we have been accustomed to.

And so with their record standing at 24-1, where do the Warriors go from here? Well…they can continue their winning ways like the elite team they are and play at an even higher level than they were during the streak.

How is this possible? Perhaps it’s because their first loss of the season was actually a blessing in disguise.

With their first loss out of the way, the Warriors can essentially head back to the grind of the NBA regular season. Without a doubt, the possibility of surpassing the 1971-1972 Lakers’ 33 game winning streak was of the utmost importance on everyone’s minds, including even the Warriors’ players themselves. A chance to make history would surely be in the back of your mind if it was within reasonable reach.

Yet the real goal for the Warriors at the beginning of the season was not to go 82-0 or break NBA records, the objective has and always will be to perform at high level as a team, make the playoffs, and continue that high level of performance onwards to a championship. The accolades are nice, but Golden State has always had something much more valuable to play for, and with the hype of thirty-four straight wins out of the way, the Warriors can set their sights back to their original goal.

Without a doubt less — albeit still pretty high — pressure can only help the Warriors as they continue in the regular season. Going undefeated was never a possibility and yet it seemed that was the expectation placed on them. No, they won’t be undefeated but let’s not forget where their record stands as of right now. The streak is over, but they are still 24-1. First in the league, conference, and division. Any other team would take that record in a heartbeat.

And so even with the streak over, the Warriors’ season is far from it. Their title as the best team in the NBA is still intact. Four days of rest is much-needed and welcomed for Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. The added time to heal can only be good for Klay Thompson. With a team largely in good health and with the added return of Harrison Barnes, there is much to look forward to in the near future.
