The Warriors’ dynamic duo of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson couldn’t deliver as Golden State lost Game 7 of the NBA Finals

Warriors fans are not really used to losing, especially during this season, but last night the they lost what was unquestionably the biggest game of their historic season.

The Warriors made a lot of history this year by breaking both team records, like wins in a season (73-9), and individual records like Stephen Curry breaking his own single season three pointers made mark (now 402). Unfortunately the Warriors also made history last night as they became the first team in NBA history to blow a 3-1 series lead in the NBA Finals. The game last night was by far the most competitive of the series and in the end the Cavaliers only won by four points (93-89) and it was a very painful night for Golden State Warriors fans.

The Warriors seemingly had the series in the bag as they blew out the Cavaliers in the first two games of the series and even managed to win in Cleveland to take a commanding 3-1 series lead back into Oakland. The Warriors came home to Oracle Arena, a place where few thought the Cavaliers could win, but Cleveland stole Game 5 and the decisive Game 7.

Although the wounds are still very fresh, this season was still a remarkable one and Warriors fans should still be very optimistic at their chances next year. The Warriors’ “big three” of Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and last and of course not least Stephen Curry are all signed through at least next season.

This historically painful Game 7 loss saw many incredible performances from both ends like Green who put up 32 points, made 6-of-8 from three point range, and was one assist shy of a triple double. There was also LeBron James and Kyrie Irving for the Cavs who once again carried their team to victory with a combined 53 points, in addition to this James became only the third player in NBA history to get a triple-double in game seven of the NBA Finals.

Two players who seemingly did little to nothing to help their team’s cause were the three point shooting masters, the”Splash Brothers”, Klay Thompson, and MVP Stephen Curry. Curry shot 4-of-14 from three and had 4 fouls and 4 turnovers in the loss. Meanwhile Thompson showed the same struggle from behind the arc making only 2-of-10 of his shots from that range. The struggle from behind the arc from these all-time great shooters was only part of the reason the Warriors could not get the win, but it will perhaps be the most notable reason.

Curry and Thompson’s disappointing performance this game does not take away from their greatness, and the accolades they and their teammates acquired this year at all.

This game was a painful one for DubNation, but time heals all and the Warriors will be eager to reclaim the title heading into next season. This loss should be a reminder that the Cavaliers are a great team as well and next season the Warriors need to make sure they close out the series before whomever they face comes back.

Cheer up Warriors fans and be grateful for the great season your team has put forth, in a few years this game will seem as only a distant memory compared the momentous records the 2015-2016 Warriors team now holds.
