The Denver Nuggets tied an all-time record with 24 three-point field goals in a blowout victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to history. Other teams have had to do it plenty of times for a big night from the Golden State Warriors. On Monday night, the Warriors were on the receiving end of a blowout loss, courtesy of an incredible performance from the Denver Nuggets.

Plenty of teams try not to engage the Warriors in a shooting battle, but a shorthanded Denver team brought the early. It’s hard not to respect the fight that they brought Golden State and by the half, Denver had 79 points and Golden State was down 25.

While this was unfamiliar territory for Golden State, they attempted to make a run at it in the third quarter. They actually held the Nuggets to just 53 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to shave the lead or anything drastic.

Even if Klay Thompson was in the lineup for Golden State on Monday night, it wouldn’t have mattered. When a team makes 24 three-point field goals, they are so locked in offensively that no one is going to stop them.

If the constant outside shots weren’t enough to sink the Warriors, Nikola Jokic was. He had a triple-double performance on the night, with 17 points, 21 rebounds and 12 assists. He’s quickly becoming one of the best big men in the NBA and he was a real problem in the interior for Golden State.

The important thing is that even in defeat, some of the young players got great experience. Patrick McCaw looked good in his first start as a pro and delivered 19 points. The struggles on the night offensively belonged to Stephen Curry. He was just one of 11 from beyond the arc and finished with only 11 points.

Ian Clark helped provide 18 points off the bench. For Denver, the threes were across the board. Juancho Hernangomez, Will Barton and Jameer Nelson combined for 15 three-point field goals. There’s a very good chance these two teams meet in the playoffs. Golden State better lock in defensively a lot earlier.
