Kevin Durant, the Golden State Warriors’ star, can now move on after playing alongside former teammate Russell Westbrook in the All-Star Game.

Well, it looks like we can finally put all that drama behind us. For months, the hot takes over Kevin Durant’s relationship with Russell Westbrook poured out. According to certain media outlets, the two players absolutely hated each other.

The stars didn’t do much to fix this perception. Durant gave very passive answers to questions about his former teammate. Westbrook took it a step further and changed the subject every time the 2014 MVP was brought up.

The media built the narrative and fans ate it up. Every little moment was scrutinized and dissected. There was a little of anticipation heading into the All-Star Game.

Just a week earlier, the two players faced off against each other. The Golden State Warriors visited the Oklahoma City Thunder for the first time since Durant’s decision. The fans, who once loved him, completely turned on him.

Westbrook pushed an unsuspecting KD. Then as the two teams returned to their own benches, the point guard turned and started to yell at Durant. He shouted “I’m coming” over and over again, giving fans the explosion that they expected to see.

Would Durant and Westbrook acknowledge each other during the All-Star Game? Would they be able to play successfully together? What would happen?

Steve Kerr teased that he would play them together, but never fully committed. He did in the first quarter, substituting Steph Curry with Westbrook. In what was a largely a boring All-Star Game, the buzz was at its highest.

Many speculated they wouldn’t pass to each other, but they almost immediately ended that. Westbrook hit Durant in the post and darted towards the basket. KD gave it right back, throwing up the alley-oop which Westbrook slammed home.

It was the connection everyone wanted to see and it happened right away. It took away all the suspense from the rest of the game. Durant and Westbrook didn’t hate each other.

As they returned to the bench, the New Orleans Pelicans’ DeMarcus Cousins (that’s weird to type, by the way) led a cheer for the two stars. They stood awkwardly, but it seemed like they were relieved to have gotten that over with.

The Warriors will visit OKC one more time. They’re going to be All-Stars together for years to come.  This was the final hurdle before moving on.

Both sides can start to get past this and focus on other things.
