The Golden State Warriors didn’t need Kevin Durant to defeat the struggling Brooklyn Nets at home on Saturday night.

During the course of an 82-game season, there are going to be points when a great team goes through the motions and puts a less than stellar performance together against a bad team. It’s a mental grind for even the best players in the NBA. On Saturday night, the Golden State Warriors did all they needed to do as they defeated the Brooklyn Nets at home.

Without Kevin Durant on the floor, it opened up minutes for the rest of the team. From the get go, it just looked like Golden State was trying to get this one wrapped up before they set out on their Eastern Conference road swing.

Things were a little sloppy and the ball was getting loose from some players. Stephen Curry had four turnovers and Draymond Green had an ugly night shooting the ball. While Curry was able to overcome a little bit of his sloppy play with great shooting from deep, it was just not Green’s game.

Whether it was because he was frustrated over being 1-10 from the field or the Nets’ ability to hang tough for a while, Green struggled in all phases. It just wasn’t the night that fans are used to seeing for him.

The good news is that the Nets are so bad that the Warriors were still able to pull away with the double-digit win. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson was all over the place crashing the boards and scoring the ball for the Nets. The young forward put on a terrific showing.

In his first game since the blowup with Shaquille O’Neal, JaVale McGee had a nice night off the bench. He finished with 7 points and 9 rebounds. The Warriors got the win in Durant’s absence and now move to 49-9 on the season and they have officially clinched a playoff spot. They will prepare for an Eastern Conference road swing that will provide plenty of opportunities.
