The Golden State Warriors mounted an incredible comeback in San Antonio to defeat the Spurs behind Steph Curry’s MVP performance.

It looked like the Golden State Warriors were on the back end of a back-to-back. It looked as if the Warriors were ready to go home. It looked as if only one team showed up to play. Then they won the game 110-108.

The Warriors fell behind by 22 points. The Spurs showed why they’re a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference. They were knocking down every thing they shot and disrupting Golden State’s offense. At one point, they pushed the lead to 22-3.

Then, suddenly, the Warriors started to play basketball. And it was absolutely glorious. They settled down and started to just chip away at the Spurs’ lead.

It was a midrange bucket here and a layup there. Andre Iguodala led the charge. Ian Clark and Klay Thompson helped as well. They outscored San Antonio 37-24 in the second quarter. They went into halftime trailing by three points because Thompson missed a wide open three-point attempt with seconds left on the clock.

It was back and forth until it wasn’t anymore. The Warriors exposed the Spurs’ weak individual defenders. They relentlessly attacked Pau Gasol and David Lee.

The Warriors got contributions from a lot of different places. David West played one year with the Spurs was boo’d upon entering the game. He had 15 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. He made big bucket after big bucket including the dagger, game-sealing three-pointer with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter.

Iguodala carried the team for stretches as they tried to make their comeback. He had 14 points on 6/9 shooting from the field. He also hauled in 6 rebounds. In addition to his offensive contributions, he was part of Golden State’s incredible defensive effort against Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard, the MVP candidate, couldn’t really get going this game. The Warriors gave him a bunch of different looks, including trapping him towards the end of the game. He only had 19 points on 35 percent shooting though he did grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. The Spurs need their best player to score more than that and he crumbled in the fourth quarter.

Stephen Curry continued to eat up this year’s MVP hopefuls. After dominating Russell Westbrook and James Harden recently, he did it to Leonard. Curry was spectacular.  He scored 29 points and dished out 11 assists while knocking down four of his eight attempts from beyond the arc.

Curry attacked the rim when the Spurs tried to run him off the line. He found open teammates all over the floor. He even managed to stay on the floor while picking up his fifth foul with four minutes left in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors now have a 3.5 game lead over the Spurs in the standings. They are also one day closer to getting Kevin Durant back. Things are looking pretty good for the Warriors.

While both teams surely have other tricks up their sleeve, Golden State has to be happy with their poise and resolve. They buckled down defensively and made an incredible comeback in a tough environment against a great team on the second night of a back-to-back.
