The Golden State Warriors released an update on Kevin Durant’s status, saying that his rehab is going well and he could be back soon.

Kevin Durant is progressing well, according to the Golden State Warriors’ latest press release. He won’t be returning to action against the San Antonio Spurs, but he could be back soon. A regular season return is still a possibility.

Here is what the team had to say about Durant’s rehabilitation:

"Kevin has made very good progress since suffering the injury four weeks ago in Washington. He has not experienced any setbacks to date and has progressed as well as could be expected. At this point, he is being incorporated into non-contact basketball drills — shooting, running and jumping — and the plan is to intensify his level of movement over the next several days, which will include more explosive cutting and lateral maneuvers. His eventual return to contact drills and practice will be predicated upon his progress to the increased intensity of his workouts, and a return to game action prior to the end of the regular season remains a possibility. He will be re-evaluated again in the next 7-10 days."

This is good news for Warriors fans. Their MVP acquisition could return for the last three regular season games. Those will be home games against the New Orleans Pelicans, Utah Jazz, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Golden State would like to get Durant some minutes in relatively low intensity games. After missing over a month of action, throwing him into playoff intensity off the bat isn’t the most ideal situation. Some regular season minutes could get him back to game speed without overwhelming him.

We got a sneak peak of that intensified workout before the game in Houston. Durant was on the floor going through drills faster than he has before.

The Warriors struggled after Durant went out. They were in the middle of a difficult stretch while Steph Curry and Klay Thompson fell into the worst shooting slumps of their career. They looked vulnerable for a handful of games.

But then the shots started falling and the defense picked up the intensity. The Warriors re-learned how to play without Durant and they’re thriving. Now that they’re really flowing, they get to add a top three player in the world to their attack.

This is great for the Dubs. For the rest of the league? Not so much.
