Steve Kerr decided to experiment in the fourth quarter and the Golden State Warriors’ 14-game winning streak ended against the Utah Jazz on Monday night.

99. 41. 105. 118. Final

With everything locked up and in hand for the Golden State Warriors, it was just a matter of how they wanted to approach these last two games. They rested Klay Thompson on Tuesday night, but still played a rather entertaining back-and-forth game against the Utah Jazz. The story of this loss was more or less a sign of the direction these last two games are going.

While the starters played the first three quarters, it became clear right away that with nothing to play for the Warriors are just biding their time until Game 1 against the Portland Trail Blazers. As the two teams battled late in the forth quarter in a close one, Kerr decided to roll out his most unusual lineup of the season.

He rolled out Ian Clark, Patrick McCaw, James Michael McAdoo, Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee. At this point, either Kerr was having fun or seeing some potential mixes he could use. A huge performance and another clutch shot would end up pushing the Jazz to the win.

That’s not really the story here as this game doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Yes, the winning streak has come to an end. However, if the Warriors really wanted it to continue they would have rolled a different lineup out.

There’s just one game left in the regular season and it will be interesting to see if any of the starters end up playing at all. Kevin Durant had a solid 16-10-6 line in 33 minutes of play. He’s working his way back and it was another encouraging night.

So rest easy, this game is merely a formality as is the finale against the Los Angeles Lakers. If there’s any consolation, the Warriors are still undefeated since Klay Thompson signed the toaster when he’s in the lineup.
