Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will miss Game 3 against the Portland Trail Blazers due to illness.

In the world of the NBA, no one is safe from missing anytime. Whether it’s due to injury, illness, rest or other reasons, there’s a chance anyone can miss a game. That extends to the head coaches as well and even in the playoffs. The Golden State Warriors will be without head coach Steve Kerr on Saturday night.

More from Warriors News

As the Warriors prepare for Game 3 against the Portland Trail Blazers, the team announced before the game that Kerr will not be coaching Saturday night. He has been sick and it’s severe enough that it will keep him from leading the team from the bench.

The team has also announced that lead assistant Mike Brown will be serving as the interim head coach on Saturday. Brown has extensive head coaching experience and this stage is nothing new to him here.

The Warriors have also had plenty of experience without Kerr as well. While he was recovering back surgery last season, Luke Walton served as head coach for a good portion of the first half of the year.

Golden State’s success during that time helped Walton land his current position as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The situations are different with Walton and Brown, as the latter has been in the coaching ranks for a long time, but Golden State has someone that can step in for a night and lead the team.

Weirdly enough, there is plenty of meaning in this game for the Warriors. Besides the chance to take a commanding lead in the series, Golden State didn’t win a single Game 3 last season and they would love to erase that trend. Without Kerr on the bench and possibly Kevin Durant on the floor, it will be interesting to see how they respond.
