Golden State Warriors starting shooting guard Klay Thompson wants to be a Warrior for life, and that’s such a relief for fans.

With all the news surrounding Klay Thompson and his future in the Bay, it’s quite a good sign to see him on board with wanting to stay in the Bay. However, we’ve seen contract disputes get ugly before. What if the Golden State Warriors can’t offer Klay the much-deserved max contract?

Well, according to Bay Area News Group, the two might be on the same page moving forward.

"“I’ve said it many times before: I would like to be a Warrior for life,” Thompson told Bay Area News Group before hosting a party at Hotel Vitale as a prelude to his first annual Thompson Family Foundation Golf Tournament on Sunday at TPC Harding Park. “Contract negotiations are way down the line. But I think we all have the same interest. I would love to be here for the rest of my career.”"

Thompson has flourished in the Bay. The Dubs 2011 first-round pick, Thompson has evolved from a pure sharpshooter to more of a complete offensive player and one of the league’s best two-way players.

Most notably known for his three-point range, Klay’s professional peak was during teammate Stephen Curry’s 2015-2016 MVP run. Klay, the team’s clear second threat, averaged a career-high 3.5 threes per game.

Ultimately, Klay averaged 22.1 points per game, marginally under his career-high.

From a professional standpoint, Klay has only ever known the Bay.

From a personal standpoint, it seems as though Klay’s only home has ever been on the West Coast as well. Born in LA and playing his college ball at Washington State, Klay’s home is on the West and for over the last decade it’s been the northern part of the West Coast.

Since Klay and the Dubs are clearly on the same page, one of two things must happen. Either Klay, like superstar teammate Kevin Durant has done, will take a pay cut to stay in the Bay, or he knows what the public doesn’t and will get the coveted max from the Dubs.

Klay is a vital piece to the puzzle. He’s been a significant contributor on all three of the Dubs championship-winning teams this decade. That said, locking him up for under the max would be a huge win for the Golden State Warriors.
