The battle for the Golden State Warriors starting small forward is down to two options: Glenn Robinson III or Alfonzo McKinnie. Who should get the nod?

As the title suggests, this article is going to be fighting for Glenn Robinson III over Alfonzo McKinnie as the Golden State Warriors starting small forward came late October.

However, the battle will be extremely close and Kerr could easily go with the one that’s been a Warrior for over a month.

As far as their skill set, it seems Robinson would just be a better fit with this starting lineup, assuming the other four are Stephen Curry, D’Angelo Russell, Draymond Green and Willie Cauley-Stein.

McKinnie, who will be entering his second season with the team, impressed during the team’s 2018 training camp and preseason. Securing a roster spot was a big deal for the 26-year-old, and now, he’ll vouch for the starting spot as well.

While he did impress then, he didn’t increase his value during the team’s postseason run, averaging under 32% from downtown. McKinnie needed to play better, and sadly, he didn’t.

That said, the spot is anyone’s for the taking.

Robinson III signed a two-year deal with a player option after his stint with Detroit didn’t go as planned. Robinson averaged just 4.2 points per game. The five-year pro out of the University of Michigan did average over 11 points per 36 minutes.

Never getting his feet on the ground, Robinson was awful from downtown with Detroit, averaging under 30% from deep. However, the prior two seasons, he averaged over 39% with one of those two seasons being over 41%. That’s not a coincidence.

A solid shooter and a true 3-and-D option, Robinson should thrive on the Warriors. All he has to do is his open threes and perform well defensively. In the playoffs, McKinnie did neither of these, and Kerr most likely won’t give the primetime minutes if he has another option.

Thin at the small forward position, the Warriors don’t have many options. It’s going to be one of these two unless a significant change happens.

But, when Thompson returns, the starter will likely hit the bench which will be a significant plus for the Dubs.
