The Golden State Warriors could use a few more veteran players, and Iman Shumpert would be a phenomenal addition to their team.

Iman Shumpert has been bouncing around the NBA for quite some time. Even when in Cleveland, it didn’t feel like home, always in and out of the rotation. Now, he, if he’s open to the veteran’s minimum, should have a chance with the Golden State Warriors.

At 29, Shumpert would come into the locker room and immediately be one of the more veteran players. However, for a team with three rookies and many more second-year players trying to make the roster, having that additional presence might be ideal.

Last season, Shumpert played on both Sacramento and Houston. In the playoffs, he saw many of his minutes slashed by the excellent play of Austin Rivers off the bench. That’s not to say Shumpert cannot be a productive asset for the Warriors.

Throughout his career, Shumpert has been known as a stout defender. That’s already useful for Golden State who allowed forward Alfonzo McKinnie to be blown by many times throughout the playoffs.

His offensive arsenal might come in handy as well. Shumpert shot 35% from downtown last season. While that’s far from elite, it’s respectable, and with the free agency market that’s remaining, it’s one of the better percentages.

With eight years experience, four of which came with LeBron James in Cleveland, Shumpert understands how to fill his specific role both offensively and defensively. That understanding shouldn’t go undervalued.

Also, the Warriors could still use some depth on the wing. They have players like McKinnie and Glenn Robinson III, but a solid two-guard to potentially even start would be helpful. After all, the Warriors are currently starting two point guards in Stephen Curry and D’Angelo Russell.

There’s no reason not to consider signing Shumpert. Let’s put it this way — if Shumpert is your worst player off the bench, that’s far from a bad thing.
