There is no rush for the Golden State Warriors to trade their upcoming NBA Draft pick. They could wait until the deadline to make a deal.

The 2020 NBA Draft is just a little over a month away and the Golden State Warriors are sitting firmly with the No. 2 overall pick. Speculation is growing on whether or not the franchise will swap their pick for something else – but league executives seem to think a potential trade might not happen until later in the season.

Tim Bontemps of ESPN has been asking around the NBA to see what the consensus is around Golden State. According to him, many executives believe the Warriors will use their pick to select the most intriguing name and use him as trade bait in the future.

"“That’s the argument for drafting the guy with the broadest appeal and [the Warriors] trying to position themselves to trade for (Bradley) Beal later.”"

Beal was specifically mentioned as one of three players the Dubs have their eyes on. The others include Jrue Holiday of New Orleans and Marcus Smart of the Celtics. Each of these guys could benefit the Warriors next season but the reality is they might not be available until the deadline.

This means the Dubs could elect to hold onto their pick and keep their options open for the future. If a trade becomes available at the deadline – they can complete the deal. If it doesn’t – they still have a top-three prospect on their roster for the remainder of the season.

The only negative in this scenario is that should the Warriors choose to make a significant trade that deep into next season, they will have less time to build chemistry with their newest pieces before entering the playoffs and competing for a title.

Bontemps went on to state that James Wiseman appears to be the Warriors’ top target, though there have been many conflicting reports regarding their true wishes in the draft. In just about a month’s time, we will find out exactly what the Dubs plan on doing.
