The center position hasn’t been completely forgotten by the NBA and Dwight Howard is making his case to be on the Golden State Warriors radar.

The Golden State Warriors will almost definitely make a few additions to their roster before next season begins. One player who should be on their radar now is Dwight Howard, a former superstar who has shockingly revived his career in Los Angeles.

Howard has had one of the more strange trajectories in recent years. A three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner, Howard’s value as a rim protector plummetted in the middle of the last decade as his athleticism abandoned him and the style of the game was altered by the space-and-pace era.

For years, Howard was seen as a flailing star who was passed his prime. Somehow, he has reversed this narrative with the Lakers, forcing his way into the starting lineup during the Western Conference Finals.

Howard is doing everything the Lakers could ask of him. He is being physical at every turn, intimidating the Denver Nuggets with his brute strength. While Nikola Jokic has still been phenomenal, Howard is doing as good a job of anybody at slowing down the Joker.

Most of his impact has been through energy. Howard is relentlessly pursuing every rebound, every loose ball. He recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds in just over 22 minutes as a starter in Game 4.  This boost was all it took to push the Lakers to the brink of advancing to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010.

The Warriors have a path to sign Howard in the offseason. Their $6 million dollar mid-level exception would be an increase to his current contract – meaning it shouldn’t be difficult to negotiate a deal that works for both sides.

Adding Howard to the roster would bring some quality depth tot he Warriors’ frontcourt. As we have seen in the NBA Playoffs, you never know when a burst of energy can change the outlook of a series. I think the Dubs would be happy to have a weapon like Howard sitting on their bench.
