G. Pick Analysis. Oklahoma State. Cade Cunningham. 1. player. 64. Scouting Report

Detroit Pistons

This would be a great case of a team who deserves the No. 1 pick actually benefitting from the new lottery odds and securing a generational superstar. The Detroit Pistons have worked hard to rebuild for years and have some promising pieces already on the roster – but Cade Cunningham moves the needle quickly for this franchise.

Cunningham is the clear No. 1 pick this year. There really isn’t denying it at this point. He’s a guard with great size, athleticism, court vision, handle, scoring and defensive potential. Cunningham’s game is so fluid and natural he has scouts everywhere drooling over his ceiling. He’s averaging 19.7 points and 6.3 rebounds as a Freshman.

The Pistons are a great fit for him, as well. With Jerami Grant making a huge leap in development and a growing frontcourt with Sekou Doumbouya and Saddiq Bey, Cunningham is a perfect addition to their backcourt.

The only potential question would be his fit next to Killian Hayes, the Pistons’ most recent lottery pick. However, I’m sure the Pistons will be just fine with watching Cunningham grow – even if it means stifling Hayes.
