Second-year Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga is a fairly quiet presence on Twitter, but the 20-year-old did feel the need to address the team’s horror loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.

Missing practically all five starters — Kevon Looney played less than six minutes — the Warriors youngsters were put to the sword by their more experienced opponents. The Pelicans opened up a 20-point lead in the first period and never looked back in a 128-83 win.

Jonathan Kuminga sees Monday’s 45-point blowout loss for the Golden State Warriors as “all part of the learning process”.

Kuminga, who’s last tweet had previously come in August, acknowledged the game as a “tough one” and that “no one said it was going to be easy”.

Last year’s seventh overall pick played a game-high 39 minutes, demonstrating flashes of brilliance to go with questionable decision-making. Kuminga had nice defensive moments on former number one overall pick Zion Williamson, keeping him to just nine points on 3-for-7 shooting in 23 minutes of gametime. It included a highlight two-handed chasedown block on a Williamson layup attempt in the opening minutes.

However, offensively it was a different story. Kuminga shot just 6-for-20 (30%) from the field, with 12 of his attempts inexplicably coming from three-point range. While he did have 18 points, and one highlight putback dunk in the second-quarter, it was hardly a display of playing to your strengths.

Kuminga is a career 32.4% three-point shooter, including just 26.7% so far this season. How can anyone with those percentages shoot double-digit three-point attempts in a single game, regardless of the personnel around them? Kuminga’s startling athleticism is his biggest attribute, yet utilizing that consistently continues to be his biggest issue.

Still, as Kuminga states, hopefully there’s something that can be learnt from what was a disastrous result. His place in the rotation continues to under question, with Golden State set to host the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.
