Quotes from Draymond Green’s Re-signing Press Conference

With the NBA moratorium finally over, the Golden State Warriors and Draymond Green put pen to paper, finally inking the five year, $82 million contract extension that he signed during the early days of free agency. Unlike a certain player playing for a division rival, there was no backing out or second thoughts here – Draymond Green knew where he wanted to play.

In case you missed it, here’s the press conference itself. Warriors’ general manager Bob Myers was also present at the press conference, while fan favorite Warriors’ color commentator Jim Barnett “hosted” the PR event.

Here are some notable quotes:

Bob Myers on re-signing Draymond Green:

"“Draymond, through his entire life, with whatever situation or whatever he’s been confronted by, has won. And it doesn’t matter where he was, what position he played, his teams won, and it’s not a coincidence. We want to have as many of those guys as we can, but that’s how Draymond separates himself – he’s an elite winner.”"

Draymond responding to “Do you feel validated now that you’ve been paid?”

"“I don’t feel that this deal validates me, because I don’t play basketball for money. I play the game because I love it. No money is going to make me feel validated or that I belong. The night that I got the phone call about the contract, I was running up and down the hotel room. But that feeling didn’t even come close to winning the championship. So if anything validated me, it was that.”"

Draymond on whether he was considering offers from other teams:

Draymond on the Clippers-Mavericks DeAndre Jordan situation:

"“I know people started signing deals last night. The whole fiasco that went on yesterday, it was fun to watch. You know, the emojis was funny, Twitter was going crazy, that was pretty fun. I was just a spectator, and I’m just going to continue to be a spectator.”"

Draymond on his relationship with the Warriors’ fanbase:

"“One thing that they’ve always appreciated is how hard I play. I also heard the gasps when I shot my rookie year, and how I sucked the life out of the stadium when I shot the ball too. But continue to play hard and give it everything that you got each and every night, and they appreciate that…. I just feel right at home, they appreciate what I bring, and I appreciate what they bring for us, each and every night.”"

Draymond on what he wants to work on during the summer:

"“I think along the way, I’ve improved my shooting, but I’m still very streaky. I want to get to the point where my shot is as consistent as it can be, and that’s something I want to work on this summer. I also want to work on a few post moves so I can take anybody to the post: where there’s guys bigger than me i can use my quickness, where there’s guys smaller than me, I’ll use my strength.”"
