After a nine day break, both teams came out firing without missing a beat. The two offenses were functioning at a very high level led by their respective point guards. Stephen Curry scored 16 points, hitting 4/7 from deep. Lillard added 17 of his own making 7 of his 10 field goals. Portland shot the ball at a very high clip, knocking down 65.4% of their attempts and all of their long balls. The Warriors moved the ball around, dishing out 11 assists on 12 field goals. With Andrew Bogut in early foul trouble, the Blazers ended the quarter on a 12-2 run and won the period 42-31.
The second quarter started off very poorly for Golden State. They allowed Portland to push the lead all the way up to 18 until Curry helped his team fight back. The Warriors went on a run and cut the lead all the way down to single digits. The Warriors scored 31 again and held Portland to just 26, cutting the deficit to 6 at the half.
The second half was all Lillard and all Portland. The Warriors couldn’t score the ball and Portland couldn’t miss. If the Blazers’ incredible play wasn’t enough, the Warriors couldn’t get out of their own way. In an effort to mount a comeback and stop the bleeding, Golden State tried to force passes that continued to get deflected and picked off by the opposition. The Warriors turned the ball over 13 times in the quarter and dug themselves a hole they couldn’t climb out of, losing the quarter 36-17.
The fourth quarter was just about Lillard chasing his career high. Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala tried to lead a comeback early on, but they couldn’t get anything going and Kerr took them out a few minutes into the period. Lillard continued to hit ridiculous three after ridiculous three and finished with 51.
Curry was -31 in 26 minutes of action, dropping 31 points and 5 assists. Draymond Green was two assists shy of another triple-double, scoring 14 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing 8 assists. If there’s a silver lining for Golden State, it’s that Kevon Looney got some minutes tonight, grabbing a career-high 8 rebounds.
