Nuggets For Dinner

The Warriors took care of business and the reeling Nuggets continue their downward spiral. The All-Star break couldn’t come any sooner for the Nuggets. The Warriors? I think they are just heating up.

Behind Stephen Curry’s wiggle and his 36 points, Golden State beat Denver 109-101. And the game wasn’t even that close. Down by four at halftime, the Warriors came out firing and outplayed and outscored the Nuggets in a pivotal third quarter, outscoring the Nuggets 37-20. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Warriors led as much as twenty points.

The Warriors shot over 50% from the field and behind the arc. Curry, himself, made 6 out of 9, as the team drained 13s out of 25 tries. They also had 14 blocks to Nuggets lonely one.

But it was Curry’s night to shine. Besides scoring 36 points, he had seven boards, seven assists and two blocks while giving the ball away one time. And he had his shake. Coach Mark Jackson had nothing rave reviews for his point guard but stopped short of complimenting Curry’s dancing skills.  “Just a spectacular night. When you look at that stat line it’s a thing of beauty,” said Jackson, who didn’t extend his rave review to Curry’s lame dance move.” “I tried to hold my laugh and stay in coach mode but I had to giggle,” Jackson said. “Now I know why my dad told me to stop doing it.”

Even Curry was ashamed the minute he was done “dancing.”

“I don’t know what got into me,” Curry said. “But I turned around and I saw (Jackson). We had joked about it earlier that it was his signature move. I haven’t practiced it but I’m scared to look at the film. That was the first time and probably the last time.”

The Warriors used a very balanced attack as Monta Ellis finished with 14 points and two blocks. David Lee followed his monster game with a reasonable finish of 12 points and eight boards. Dorell Wright, in his jekyll and hyde mode, finished with 14 points. Finally, finally, Andris Beidriens has some stats! The guy finished with one bucket, eight boards and two blocks. You would figure that if the Warriors had 14 blocks, that most of them would be from their tallest player who should be busy protecting the rim. Not the case, but since he is in the stat sheet with out any big fat donuts, I’ll go easy on him this time.

From the bench, Klay Thompson’s rookie up and down rookie years continues. He finished with a season high of 19 points in 18 minutes. Not bad, but it sure looks like that if that guy isn’t scoring, he isn’t doing much else. Oh! I take that back, he’s just fouling, as he collected four fouls in 18 minutes!

For the Nuggets, their latest struggle continues and they have now lost five in a row. Arron Affalo was the top scorer for the Nuggets, finishing with 26 points but without leading scoring Danilo Gallinari and Timofey Mosgov, the Nuggets are struggling to find some answers. While their 14-5 start was a great story after the lockout, the Nuggets are now 15-12 and 7-7 at home. The Warriors just help the Nuggets along their merry way to another loss.

The next three games for the Warriors will take place at home as they host the Rockets, the Suns and the Trailblazers. First game is on Sunday.
