In the sports world, a dynasty is known as a word referring to a franchise that has repeated championship success. Dynasties are and few between. In the past decade and a half, the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs have achieved enduring success that catapulted them into the esteemed company of teams that have won multiple championships.

So what does it take to become a dynasty?

The Spurs have won four championships in five NBA Finals over the past 15 years, and the Lakers have won five in seven over the past 14 years. Youth, talent and coaching are all important factors to winning multiple championships, but having a player that transcends all others is needed. Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan (as well as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird) have been and will continue to be a part of the greatest players of all-time discussions.
