Sacramento Kings (Pacific Division)
Last year’s result: Regular Season (28-54). Missed Playoffs
Significant players added: Darren Collison, Nik Stauskas (Rookie)
Significant players lost: Isaiah Thomas
Projected starting lineup: Darren Collison, Ben McLemore, Rudy Gay, Jason Thompson, DeMarcus Cousins
Analysis: In one of the more head-scratching moves of the off-season, the Kings inked Darren Collison to a 3-year $16 million contract. They seemed content to let Isaiah Thomas test free agency, and he eventually left for the Suns. Collison will look to initiate the offense through young shooters Ben McLemore, rookie Nik Stauskas and dominant big man DeMarcus Cousins. Stauskas was touted as the best shooter in the draft, making him an interesting selection with McLemore already on the team. This team should struggle with middling bench talent, Rudy Gay’s desire for touches, and no bona fide player to stick at the power forward spot. The Kings look to be a bit worse than last year, as Thomas is statistically a better offensive player than Collison and it’s a wash on the defensive end.
