- What is the team’s defensive identity?
One of my biggest concerns when Kerr took over was the team’s defensive identity. The team established itself as one of the best defensive teams during Mark Jackson’s tenure as head coach, and it was a reasonable concern once he left.
However, Kerr has proven my concerns to be folly.
The team still looks strong defensively and is even second in defensive rating in the league behind the Houston Rockets. Take into account that the Warriors have faced three teams in the top 10 of points scored per game: Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers (twice).
Curry’s effort on the defensive end has improved greatly. He isn’t the turnstile on defense he once was, though there is still room for improvement. His slight frame will never allow him to be a tough lockdown defender, but if he can maintain this level of effort and intensity, the Warriors’ coaching staff will be more than happy.
