5. Steve Kerr’s Signing

So when Jackson was let go after the end of the season, it was no surprise to anyone. The Golden State Warriors then embarked on a search for his successor, and were linked to multiple names: Steve Kerr, Stan van Gundy, Mike D’Antoni, and Lionel Hollins.
Van Gundy – who was the favourite, decided to sign with the Detroit Pistons, and it seemed like Kerr would join his former coach Phil Jackson with the New York Knicks. However, he met up with Warriors’ general manager Joe Lacob and liked the Warriors’ direction.
Looking back, Kerr’s signing was perhaps the most pivotal decision of the Warriors’ season. He’s silenced all the doubters that brought up his lack of experience, and has wowed many with his style of coaching. Kerr has transformed a young, promising team into a legitimate contender in the span of a few short months.
