Stephen Curry Should Win NBA MVP Award

It has been one of the most fiercely contested MVP races in recent years, but with the regular season now over it is not long until the winner of the award is revealed. James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis are all strong contenders, but ultimately there is one man in particular who deserves it the most.

More from Stephen Curry

Golden State Warriors’ star Stephen Curry has been one of the leading players in the league this season both on and off the court as he continues to fulfill his ambition of becoming the new face of the NBA.

His numbers speak for themselves with 23.9 points, 7.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game which are all up on his career averages to prove the development that he has shown. However, in addition to the statistics, his influence and overall importance to the Warriors shouldn’t be overlooked even with a healthy roster.

The point guard essentially runs the show for Steve Kerr on the floor and sets the pace and standard for those around him while making it all easier for them in the process. Is that not essentially what the MVP award is all about?

Admittedly, he hasn’t had to deal with a serious injury to any of his key teammates like Harden has with Dwight Howard or Westbrook with Kevin Durant, but that shouldn’t make a difference as when he is on the court he is undoubtedly the most valuable player out there.

While the system is slightly flawed in the sense that Curry has played less minutes and has sat out to rest in fourth quarters when he could have easily made this less of a contest with big game-winning shots, he will have to settle for leading his team to the best record in the league this year.

Golden State sit atop the Western Conference with a 67-15 record, which gives them a lead of more than 10 games over their nearest rivals. They have set the pace in the NBA for the entire year along with the Atlanta Hawks, and their level of consistency should be rewarded in any way possible including on an individual basis.

Harden has undoubtedly been sensational this season and certainly deserves recognition for dragging the Rockets to the right end of the West while Davis, Westbrook, LeBron James and Chris Paul have enjoyed stellar campaigns.

However, this is Curry’s year and there shouldn’t be much of an argument as records have continuously tumbled over the season as the 27-year-old put on a show night after night while also importantly stepping it up on the defensive end too.

The numbers will reveal that the Warriors are far worse when Curry isn’t out on the floor, and when it is all said and done, he deserves the award this year in recognition of what he has produced consistently to lead the best team in the league and emerge as one of the best two-way players in the NBA.
