1.

This was a pretty tough decision. Of course, the magnitude of the previous play and the difficult of the no.3 overall play would be enough to push this down the list, but look at that picture. Wardell Stephen Curry made Chris Paul hit the whip during the course of an NBA game.

This play is beautiful. Dribbling along the baseline, Curry went behind the back towards the rim then went behind the back the other way eventually hitting the open jumper and setting the Internet on fire. Meme after meme assessing the damage Curry did to Paul’s ankles and psyche filled up timelines everywhere.

I chose this play for several reasons. First of all, any crossover that makes any player fall is always pretty special. When that player is an elite defender at his position, the ankle-breaker becomes even better. And when that elite defender plays for your rival time, it’s about as good as it gets. I’m still not sure that wasn’t Cliff Paul out there.

Secondly, this solidified the passing of the torch that happened in the NBA this year. Paul, widely regarded as the best point guard in the NBA over the last few years, has been bested. He no longer owns that title: it’s Curry’s. Of course, one play doesn’t do this, but this represented the shift beautifully. Curry took the title of best point guard in the league by force (through finesse) and, much like this crossover, Chris Paul was helpless.
