A throw-in salary to make the salaries match in the David Lee-Gerald Wallace trade, many are surprised to see Chris Babb still on the Warriors’ roster. The belief was that the Boston Celtics and the Warriors included Babb as part of the Lee trade because Babb’s salary was non-guaranteed, meaning the Warriors could waive him almost immediately after receiving him.
But in reality, it is the other Celtic that the Warriors acquired that received the quick boot.
Most of Babb’s time in the NBA has been spent in the D-League. As a typical 3-and-D guy, the Celtics saw enough promise in him to sign him to a multi-year deal. Unfortunately, he spent most of that time with their D-League affiliate, and it seems as though most of his value comes from his non-guaranteed contract.
Babb still has a chance of making the roster, but only because the Warriors haven’t waived his contract just yet.
