The Golden State Warriors remained undefeated as they defeated the Brooklyn Nets in overtime 107-99.

More from Stephen Curry

Without Klay Thompson and Leandro Barbosa, Brandon Rush got the start at shooting guard. The Warriors were extremely slow out of the gate, falling behind 36-21 after the opening period. It was the defending champs’ largest deficit of the new season. The Nets, who have struggled this year, were energized by former-Warrior Jarrett Jack and Thaddeus Young. Young, guarded by Draymond Green, converted on his first eight field goal attempts.

The Warriors battled from behind in the second quarter behind the strength of Shaun Livingston and the bench unit. After falling apart defensively in the first quarter, they tightened things up in the second and only allowed Brooklyn to score 18 points to Golden State’s 31. At the half, Young led all scorers with 20 points and Curry followed with 15 of his own.

Maintaining the lead at the half helped the Nets keep some momentum as they won the third quarter 23-18. Towards the end of the period, the Warriors had come within three points, but just couldn’t convert on any of their three-point attempts. Green and Stephen Curry missed consecutive three-pointers with time winding down. After getting the defensive stop, Andre Iguodala turned the ball over and Jack hit a buzzer beating floater.

The fourth quarter was back and forth as Jack and the Warriors exchanged blows. The Dubs couldn’t find a reliable source of offense as Curry’s shot was off, but timely plays from several different players in “slate” helped the Warriors claw their way back in. A Harrison Barnes jumper gave the Warriors their first lead since 5-4 early in the first quarter.

Crucial turnovers down the stretch almost did the Warriors in as both Bogut and Curry gave Brooklyn opportunities at the end. With a little over 20 seconds left, Jack and the Nets were called for an 8 second violation. The Warriors turned it over on the ensuing possession, but Iguodala drained a three off a Green assist. The Nets got two shots off on the other end, missing a Brook Lopez tip at the buzzer.

Overtime was dominated by the better team as the Warriors outscored the Nets 10-2, as the home team forced turnovers and ran in transition. Curry finished with a game-high 34 points and Green added a triple-double in the effort.
