Thompson’s big night leads Warriors to win over Mavs
The Golden State Warriors continued their winning ways in dominating fashion as they beat the Dallas Mavericks to reach 42-4.
Golden State’s hot shooting carried over from their previous win, as they had a commanding lead, 15-4 early on in the first quarter. Klay Thompson couldn’t miss, scoring nine points on 3/3 shooting in the first few minutes. Thompson and Harrison Barnes headed the Warriors’ offense in the quarter, scoring 17 of Golden State’s first 20 points.
Stephen Curry managed just a single point in the first quarter. Despite the Warriors’ impressive shooting, the Mavericks were able to keep the score within reach. Golden State led at the end of the first, 32-22.
In the first few minutes of the second quarter, the Warriors and Mavericks traded baskets back-and-forth, matching each other’s offensive possessions. Dallas managed to decrease their deficit to six points in the quarter. Draymond Green struggled to stay on the court, picking up his third personal foul in just the first half. The Mavericks, led by Chandler Parsons’ twelve points, were able to cut the deficit to two points.
While Curry struggled to find his shot, shooting 1/8, Thompson found the basket from anywhere possible on the court. Thompson led all scorers with 26 points. Parsons was the only Maverick to score in double figures, as Golden State led 56-48 at the half.
To start the second half, Curry finally knocked down his first three of the game, extending the Warriors’ lead. After the Mavericks reduced the lead to just one point, Stephen Curry converted his second and third three pointers of the game to keep Golden State ahead.
The Mavericks would not let up as Parsons his third and fourth three pointer of the game to give him 21 points. Yet every time it seemed that Dallas could potentially take the lead, the Warriors, led by Curry, Thompson, and Green’s shooting from inside the paint and behind the arc, built a commanding run to keep the lead to double digits. After turning to their small ball lineup, Golden State produced a 39 point third quarter, leading the game 95-77.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Warriors starters sat out much of the fourth quarter. As Curry and Green checked back in about halfway through the quarter, Thompson single-handedly put the game away for Golden State, who simply couldn’t miss from the three-point line. The Warriors came away with the W, 127-107.
Klay Thompson led all scorers with a season-high 45 points. Curry, Barnes, and Green all contributed with double-digit scoring outputs.
