The Golden State Warriors were able to pull out the road win over the Orlando Magic at Amway Center on Thursday, winning 130-114. The Dubs move to 52-5 on the season, 5-1 on their current seven-game road trip.
Stephen Curry led all scorers with 51 points on 20-for-27 shooting (10-for-15 from behind the arc), also dropping seven rebounds and eight assists. Marreese Speights was the second leading scorer for Golden State with 14, Draymond Green and Andrew Bogut were able to tally 12 points a piece, and Harrison Barnes recorded 10 points on the night. Klay Thompson had nine points on 4-for-10 shooting from the field, 1-for-5 shooting from behind the arc.
Evan Fournier was the leading scorer for the Magic, scoring 20 points. Also in double-digits for Orlando was their entire starting lineup: Bay Area kid Aaron Gordon (19), Nikola Vucevic (17), Victor Oladipo (14), and Elfrid Payton (12).
The first quarter opened with the Warriors and the Magic going back and forth as both teams looked to establish a rhythm. Orlando commanded a 15-8 lead after a 7-0 run, which was soon neutralized by a 9-2 run by the Warriors. Curry was able to end that run with his first three-pointer of the game, breaking the NBA record previously held by Kyle Korver for most consecutive games with a made three-pointer (128).
After ending the first quarter with a 33-30 lead, the Warriors continued to capitalize on their lead in the second, pushing it to as much as six by the 9:08 mark. Their lead proved temporary as Orlando continued to answer, forcing four ties before taking the 54-52 lead at the 3:10 mark. The Magic went up by as much as six before ending the half with 63-59 lead over Golden State.
Curry was the only Warriors player in double digits at the half, tallying 22 points after scoring 15 in the first quarter. The Magic ended the first half with three players in double digits, including Fournier (17), Oladipo (12), and Vucevic (11). Despite shooting 52.1 percent on the half while holding Orlando to 42.0 percent shooting, the Warriors also gave up 12 turnovers.
The start of the third quarter saw more of the same…but then, Steph Curry happened. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Shooting 6-for-7 from behind the arc, Curry was able to record 24 points in just the third quarter, ending it with a half court jumper to beat the buzzer. Warriors outscored the Magic 40-28 in the third, securing their biggest lead of the game at 99-91 going into the final quarter.
After nine made threes, it appeared as if Curry’s night was done after the Dubs were able to go up as much as 15 points in the fourth quarter. Despite their 15-point lead, Steve Kerr chose to put the reigning MVP back into the game with 5:49 left to make sure the team kept the advantage. After going up 125-110 at the 2:26 mark, Kerr opted to get his subs in to finish the game.
