Warriors defeat Suns, 123-116; Quotes of the Night
The Golden State Warriors defeated the Phoenix Suns in dramatic, come-from-behind fashion. Here are the best quotes from that night.
The Golden State Warriors continued their march on history with another home victory over the Phoenix Suns, increasing their win streak at Oracle Arena to 48 straight victories.
After controlling the entire game against the Portland Trail Blazers last night, the Warriors were in for a tougher time against the enigmatic Suns. Brandon Knight and Devin Booker were almost able to lift Phoenix to an improbable upset of one of the best home teams in league history.
Prior to the game, Warriors fans waited in anticipation for any news regarding Andre Iguodala. The sixth man had to exit Friday’s game against the Trail Blazers after twisting his ankle. Head coach Steve Kerr shared some bad-but-could-be-worse news ahead of the contest.
Marreese Speights scored a season-high 25 points, making spectacular play after spectacular play during this close one, feeding off the Oracle Arena energy. CSN Bay Area’s Monte Poole got a few quote from Kerr regarding Speights’ performance.
"“Mo was terrific,” coach Steve Kerr said. “He did this five or six times last year, where he just comes in and saves the day.”"
Speights also earned the praise of his teammates including Shaun Livingston.
"“He was there tonight,” guard Shaun Livingston said. “And anytime someone is playing like that off the bench, it’s an asset to the team.”"
MVP Stephen Curry also commented on Speights’ interaction with the crowd when he gets hot.
"“He loves it when he plays well, and the crowd loves it when he plays well just because of that energy that he brings,” Curry said of Speights. “It’s just fun to watch. It’s contagious, the energy that he brings. He gets that smile on his face and gets the crowd into it. We needed a push in the fourth quarter, and he definitely provided it.”"
Despite Speights’ performance, it’s Curry who runs the show, both around the league and in the Bay Area. Visitors also acknowledge what the point guard really means around these parts and gave us this bit of humor.
Despite the tough competition, the Warriors understand that this year’s Phoenix Sins incarnation wasn’t as strong as the teams in seasons past. Though the Sun do have solid future if their young players like Booker (who made it to the final round in the three-point contest against the Splash Brothers) continue to get better.
