The Golden State Warriors will look to clinch the NBA Championship in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

The Golden State Warriors will look to win their second consecutive championship on the one year anniversary of their title victory last year.

The Dubs had a chance to close out the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 at Oracle Arena on Monday, but, without Draymond Green, the Cavs were too much. Kyrie Irving and LeBron James combined for 82 points in what will go down as one of the best road performances facing elimination in NBA history.

Now with their All-Star power forward back, the Warriors are looking to secure their title and place in history. They want to fly back to the Bay Area for a parade, not a Game 7. Ahead of their January game, Stephen Curry said that he hoped the Cleveland locker room still smelled like champagne. If, over the last few months the smell has worn off, Golden State wants to spray the bubbly once again.

The Warriors aren’t at full strength, losing Andrew Bogut to a season-ending leg injury he suffered in the third quarter of Game 5. After blocking J.R. Smith‘s shot, the Cavs’ shooting guard landed on Bogut’s leg. An MRI revealed that he suffered multiple bone bruises that would sideline him for the next 6-8 weeks.

Now Steve Kerr has a decision to make. He can start Festus Ezeli at the center spot or he can start Andre Iguodala and go with his Death Lineup. In typical Kerr fashion, he hasn’t shown his hand yet so anything is possible. Heck, he might even start Anderson Varejao.

Klay Thompson scored 37 while Curry added 25 in the Game 5 loss. The Warriors missed one wide open shot after another and they’ll need both their Splash Brothers and Harrison Barnes to knock down every open look they get.

This series has been absolutely unpredictable, more so than the “average” Finals series. Three straight blowouts, followed by two huge road victories, with historic performances sprinkled in has opened things up. The Cavaliers want to force a Game 7. The Warriors want to make history i the same spot they did last year.

It’s the biggest game of the season with all eyes on Curry and James as they look to improve their legacies.

Also noteworthy, Craig Sager will be working his first NBA Finals game in his illustrious career. A deal worked out between TNT and ESPN has allowed this to happen. Regardless of who you are supporting, this should put a smile on your face.
