Klay Thompson – Magmar

The Golden State Warriors’ have players who can catch fire instantly. Klay Thompson’s Pokémon counterpart is Magmar, for several reasons.

Klay Thompson would probably be considered the best shooter in the league if it wasn’t for his backcourt mate.

The guy can get hotter than anyone in an instant. Thompson just needs to see a few go in before he really gets it going. It gets to the point where it doesn’t seem like he even needs to look at the basket anymore; just letting the ball graze his fingers before launching is enough.

So Magmar, a Pokémon who lives in volcanoes and is literally made up of fire, is a perfect match for Thompson.

He heals himself by dipping his wound into fire. Thompson gets out of shooting slumps by shooting. It just makes so much sense. When Magmar is in a cold place, it spits fire all around it in order to heat it up and make it a suitable living condition. When Thompson is in a cold place, he just launches at will, hoping to put himself and his team in a comfortable position.

There are other fire-type Pokémon I could’ve chosen. One of the most iconic creatures, Charmander (and its subsequent forms), is fire-type. But there’s a very specific reason why I chose Magmar over every other one.

Take a look at its face.

Magmar has sleepy eyes that it can’t quite open all the way and it can’t help but keep its mouth open. Doesn’t it kind of look like its been inhaling too much smoke in its volcano? And well….Klay Thompson is known to do the same.

I mean seriously, just look at these guys man.
