3. The Spurs are getting old for once
After losing in the playoffs to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2015 and the Oklahoma City Thunder last season, it seemed obvious that the San Antonio Spurs needed to get younger. The athleticism of the Thunder/Clippers front line bothered the Spurs, and were big reasons they lost both series.
Let’s just say the Spurs didn’t get any younger this season.
San Antonio essentially swapped 40 year old retiree Tim Duncan for 36 year old Pau Gasol. Danny Green and Lamarcus Aldridge are age 29 and 30 respectively. It seems like Tony Parker has been 34 for years now. Manu Ginobbli is a dinosaur in his own right at age 38. Their old guys are considered to be ancient and most of their young guys are also old.
But somehow we know the Spurs will be fine. They’re extremely well run and well coached. Kawhi Leonard is an emerging star in this league. And don’t forget, despite their age, they were arguably the best defensive team of all time last season, winning a franchise-best 67 games in the regular season.
But you still have to wonder – will the Spurs ever go away?
