The Golden State Warriors made the best move in free agency by acquiring one of the top players in the league.

Shocking, right?

This was perhaps the biggest free agent signing since LeBron James “took his talents to south beach” and then subsequently returned home to Cleveland.

Durant is a former MVP and was once again one of the most dominant players in the NBA last season averaging 28.2 points per game as well as 8.2 rebounds per game. Durant has spent his entire NBA career thus far on the Oklahoma City Thunder (who the Warriors beat in the Western Conference Finals), and the Warriors’ acquisition of this incredible player certainly shocked the league.

This move made a great team even more dominant, and after nearly capturing a second straight NBA title this move really puts the Warriors in a league of their own heading into next season.

More from Blue Man Hoop

For a quick comparison the Warriors starting small forward last season, Harrison Barnes who is now on the Dallas Mavericks, averaged only 11.7 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. The Warriors now have two (perhaps three) MVP caliber players on their roster now. Durant will be the highest paid Warriors player next season, making over 26 and a half million dollars.

The Warriors signed Durant to a two year contract with the second year being a player option for Durant. This move increased the Warriors title odds next season significantly and it would be hard to imagine that this move won’t go down in history as a very smart signing.
