6. The 2014 Dunk Contest

Harrison Barnes participated in the 2014 dunk contest and struggled.

I’m going to give Barnes a little credit here and say that this was probably the worst dunk contest ever.

Whoever thought that this weird format was a good idea probably should have gotten fired immediately. It was confusing and awkward and a waste of time. I mean, I know that the dunk contest needed something to revitalize what was once All-Star Weekend’s most exciting event, but that wasn’t it.

But the Black Falcon, with all his athleticism and vertical leaping ability, entered the dunk contest and threw down a vicious…layup?

Yup.  Fast forward to the 1:00 mark on the video above and watch Barnes receive an alley-oop pass from Damian Lillard and finish with a great reverse layup.

Barnes’ participation in the dunk contest surely excited Warriors’ fans, who remember when Jason Richardson became one of the greatest to ever do it. Some of Barnes’ in-game dunks gave hope that he could potentially do really well in the contest.

Sure, the format was horrible. But Barnes didn’t even do the one thing you’re supposed to do and that’s dunk the basketball. So much of the dunk contest relies on being a showman and winning over the crowd and Barnes just isn’t that guy. He’s very low key. Which is absolutely fine.

Just not in the dunk contest.
