How would you explain Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors to someone who fell asleep in 2012 and just woke up?

I was sitting in the stands on Tuesday at Oracle Arena — having dropped a semester’s worth of book charges on tickets — to watch Kevin Durant play his first game in his new home when it hit me: this dude is really a member of the Golden State Warriors.

Next: Warriors are better than Team USA

Which got me thinking — if your friend pulled a Rip Van Winkle on March 13, 2012, the day the Warriors traded Monta Ellis to the Bucks for Andrew Bogut, and woke up 1,597 days later on July 26, 2016, how would you explain this to them? How did a franchise that, not too long ago, paid Kwame Brown $7 million to play on their professional basketball team just sign an MVP in his prime?

Here would be my attempt to explain.

Next: The Monta trade worked out well - like, really well
