4. Business opportunities

Sure, Cousins is in California, but it’s not the Bay Area.

With a new arena in San Francisco and plenty of business opportunities, the Warriors will be even more attractive to free agents. Cousins is too good to not be a bigger star and not have a bigger brand.

It’s partly why Andre Iguodala chose the Warriors several years ago. It had to have also played a role in Durant’s decision. It was why people outside of the Bay Area were genuinely convinced that Harrison Barnes was a star.

Not only will playing for the Warriors help him on the court during his playing career, he can establish relationships and create a network that will carry him after he retires from the NBA.

The Warriors are the hottest show in sports right now. Their games are must-see TV; a far cry from what’s going on in Sacramento. They get the endorsements, magazine covers, rap lyrics, jersey sales, and everything else.

It makes a lot of business sense for Cousins to pack his bags and go south. It would do wonders for his brand and ascension amongst the NBA elite.

His bank account would thank him.
