3. MVP
The MVP shoe was number one in last year’s list.
This year’s iteration isn’t as high, but it deserves a spot simply because of what it is and what it represents. Last year’s shoe was higher partly because it was nicer and partly because Curry didn’t lose the NBA Finals while wearing them.
Yes, he wore this year’s MVP shoes during his Game 6 outburst and Game 7 collapse. So they don’t have the best track record. Everytime someone plays back the tape of the 73 win team losing the first 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals, they’ll see those shoes.
Despite that, no one can take away the fact that Curry was the first unanimous MVP in league history. He had a special and historic year. He won the scoring title, averaging 30 points on less than 35 minutes per game. He broke his own record and made 402 three-pointers. He dazzled.
The shoe itself is nice. It’s a dark black with a gradient blend into yellow on the front of the shoe. On the sides was a shimmery dark blue. On the top of the tongue, emblazoned in bright yellow to contrast the black are the letters “MVP.”
The shoe didn’t work the way it was supposed to. In fact, Curry, according to USA Today, averaged the least amount of points in black shoes in the regular season and the Warriors only went 9-4 in those games.
Regardless, the shoe is still a very good looking one. And only one player each year (excluding Finals MVP) has the opportunity to make one commemorating an MVP award. While it turned out to be the losing shoe, it still signified something historic.
