1972-1975

The San Francisco Warriors were officially changed to the “Golden State” Warriors in the 1971 season, after the team had been playing many of their games in Oakland in the previous years.

In adopting the “Golden State” name, the organization needed to create a uniform that included the entire region. They introduced both the home yellow and road blue versions of one of the best uniform designs in history.

Similar to their current designs, there was a large circle in the middle of the chest. On top were the words “Golden State.” On the left side (right if you’re wearing it) is a silhouette of the state of California with a star right over the Bay Area.

It’s a wonderful jersey because it successfully shows the transition from the city by the Bay to the whole Bay.

Rick Barry and the Warriors wore these in 1975 as they swept the mighty Washington Bullets in the NBA Finals. The title would be their first on the West Coast and their only for another forty years.

The Warriors brought the blue ones back in 2008 and the yellow ones in 2011 as part of their Hardwood Classics night.

Small changes were made to the jersey over the next eighteen years such as changing the script from “Golden State” across the top to “Warriors.” The “Golden State” version makes this list because it successfully led the transition from the city by the Bay to the whole Bay Area.

These jerseys represented their fan base wonderfully, they look amazing, and they actually won a title in it.
