The Verdict

When I started writing this, I had every intention of making Mitch Richmond the greatest no.23 in franchise history.

It just made sense. For full transparency, I never saw Richmond play. He was a bit before my time. But I had watched the classic games and highlights and had heard all of the stories of how great he was. And he really was.

His numbers and his impact in such a short time really stand out. The fact that he’s a part of one of the most exciting big threes. I really thought my final verdict was going to be him.

But once I actually had all of the information and accolades and everything in front of me, it’s hard not to say Draymond Green has already surpassed every no. 23 in Warriors history. Now, that’s not to say that he’s necessarily a better player than Richmond ever was, but his Warriors career has been better.

He has won and that’s all you can ask for from a player. At this rate, the number will be retired for him when it’s all said and done. That’s how special this team can be with Green in the core. He’s already won one championship, set a wins record, and is starting to pile up the individual accolades.

Green has played more years than Richmond did in Golden State and he’s here for the long haul.

Draymond Green is the best no.23 in franchise history.
