Opening Night: 10/25/16

The Warriors will begin their pursuit of a third straight Western Conference title (although they have bigger goals in mind) with an opening night heavyweight match in Oracle Arena with the San Antonio Spurs. This game will be very intriguing for many different reasons. The biggest of which will likely be the official debut of Kevin Durant in a Warriors uniform.

As we all know, Durant signed with the Warriors in the offseason, but what may be forgotten at that time will be that the Spurs were one of his potential suitors once free agency began. While it won’t be a huge story line, it will be a chance for Durant to see if he made the right choice. Spoiler alert: he did.

Opening night is always a big game, so on that alone this should be fun. If you remember, we didn’t see a Warriors-Spurs game until mid-January last year, so this year the schedule makers blessed us with one on the very first night. With Durant single-handedly shifting the balance of power in the West, there is no doubt that the Spurs and the Warriors will be two of the three top teams in the conference come seasons end.
