Durant Battles Old Friends: 11/3/16

I would have loved to see this game be played in Oklahoma City, but unfortunately we will have to wait until almost Valentines Day for Durant’s return to OKC. The reason I would have liked to see it early in the season is for two reasons. One is that with injuries being an unfortunate part of the game, you never know who is going to be healthy and who isn’t halfway through the year. The other reason is that at the mid point of the season, the Durant signing may not feel as fresh. Either way, this early season Warriors-Thunder game will be a nice little appetizer at Oracle Arena.

As we all know, the Warriors faced elimination after falling down 3-1 to the Durant-led Thunder in the 2016 Western Conference Finals. In perhaps the second greatest comeback in NBA history (It’ll be okay, I promise), the Warriors miraculously came back and earned their second straight trip to the NBA Finals. The Warriors rattled off three incredible wins in a row and sent OKC into the offseason with questions.

Now that Russell Westbrook is inked to an extension with the Thunder, it looks like he’ll be in Oakland come November 3rd, which will make the Durant-Westbrook match-up one of the more exciting in the early season. Something tells me Westbrook will be playing with a bit more fire on this night, if that’s even possible. There’s definitely no love lost between these two.
