Draymond Green is one of the Golden State Warriors’ most important players. But could they be trying to move him for superstar Anthony Davis?

The Golden State Warriors have already made a huge splash in free agency by signing Kevin Durant. They’ve built a “super team,” making the one move that would make their 73 win team better. But perhaps they’re about to get better.

Rumors have started circulate surrounding All-Star power forward Draymond Green. They suggest that the Warriors have grown tired of Green’s antics, from his on-court actions that got him suspended to his arrest and social media slip ups. if they can, they want to move on from him.

Of course, Green has become one of the best players in the entire NBA so he wouldn’t be cheap for any team trying to add him. So what would they trade him away for? The rumor that has started to pick up steam (at least around social media) is a trade that would send New Orleans Pelicans’ star Anthony Davis to the Bay Area.

Davis, when healthy, is probably one of the top-five players in the entire league. He’s had some trouble staying on the court, but there’s little he can’t do when he’s actually playing. He’s a legitimate star.

Is this just a pipe dream? A rumor started at the end of summer during the extra slow part of the offseason? Or is there something actually there? It’s probably a bit of both.

The Warriors can’t be too thrilled with Green’s behavior. No one wants their driving force to be out of control on the court and to spend more time on TMZ than ESPN. They obviously would like that to change.

And Anthony Davis is a truly special talent. There isn’t a team in the league that wouldn’t want him and there isn’t one who wouldn’t get better with him. And Green has blossomed into a star, one that would require a lot to take him away from Golden State.

The rumor was reported by the Blow Sports has caused a buzz on social media because the Warriors adding Davis would be absolutely ridiculous. The Inquisitr also picked up the story, but, as of yet, no major news outlet has reported it. While it’s not impossible that there was some contact between the Warriors and the Pelicans or unofficial interest from one or both sides, it’s not likely there’s anything in the works.

The Warriors would have to give up more than just Draymond Green in order to acquire the All-NBA player. Davis signed a big contract last offseason and he’ll be making a little over $127 million over the next 5 years. Green signed for 5 years, but “just” $88 million. Golden State would likely have to throw in Shaun Livingston as well, in order to make the numbers work.

The Pelicans are looking to build around Davis, not deal him away. It was just two years ago that New Orleans made the playoffs led by their MVP-level big man. While Green is definitely a fantastic player, Davis is franchise centerpiece.

A core of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Davis could be even more special than what they have, on paper. But basketball isn’t played on paper. The Brow is more talented than Green, but what the Warriors’ 2012 draft pick brings to the table in terms of chemistry and leadership can’t be easily replaced.

Don’t expect Green to go anywhere.
