Shooting Guard: Klay Thompson

For the past couple of years, Klay Thompson has been regarded as the the second best player on the Warriors. His NBA record 37 point quarter is just one of many moments that Thompson has showcased his unbelievable shooting skill, and he has shown year after year the ability to improve his game, adding something new each and every season.

This season, Thompson will not be the second best player on the Warriors, and some may argue he won’t be the third either. However, that shouldn’t change the fact that Thompson should have a very high 2k rating.

Thompson finished his sophomore season averaging 16.6 points and shooting just above 40% from three. However, his 2k rating in 2k14 was set at a dismal 73. Each year since then, his game on both the real and virtual hardwood has improved.

The following year saw Thompson become the Warriors steady 2nd option, as he finished the year averaging a career high 18.4 points and shooting nearly 42% from deep. His 2k rating reflected those jumps, as he shot up to a 82 overall.

The following year was Thompson’s first All-Star appearance. He managed to average a career high 21.7 points and again lighting it up from the three point line shooting nearly 44%. And let’s not forget about that 37 point quarter he had against the Kings, showcasing he could go absolutely bazerk at any given moment.  Once again his 2k rating rose, this time to a very respectable 89 overall.

Last season, however he started the year very rocky. The entire season we never knew which Klay we were going to get. Were we going to get “pull up from 30 feet because why not” Klay, or were we going to get “please stop shooting the ball” Klay? We never really knew, but he did enough to make his second straight All-Star team.

His performance in game six of the Western Conference Finals series showed us he has the ability to turn it on when desperately needed, however, I don’t think he did enough to warrant a huge change in his rating this year.

2k17 rating prediction: 88
