Power Forward: Draymond Green

Draymond Green’s rise to star status came on rather quickly. After coming the beneficiary of an injury to David Lee in the 2014-15 preseason, Green was cast into the starting job after proving himself on the defensive end of the court in the previous season.

His rookie season he averaged a measly 2.9 points, 0.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds, all while shooting a dismal 32.7% from the field and 20.9% from deep. His 2k rating the following year reflected those numbers as he was rated a 62 overall in the 2k14 installment.

The following year he improved upon those numbers a bit, but was still a far cry from the beast we know today. His sophomore season saw him average 6.2 points, still not all that impressive, but his shooting improved tremendously, shooting 40.7% from the field, and 33.3% from three. His 2k15 rating jumped up to a respectable 77 overall, but still, nothing close to what we know today.

His first year in the starting power forward role saw his number jump considerably, but that of course is partially due to an increase in minutes per game (nearly 10 minutes per game more than the previous year). Of course the third year player was continually improving his game upping his scoring average to 11.7, while his shooting continued to rise as well. Because of this, we saw his 2k16 rating set at 82.

This past season, however, Green made the biggest jump of his career. He took the league by storm (if that is even possible being on the same team as Stephen Curry), and even led his team in assists. For awhile during the 2015-16 season, Green led the league in triple doubles, and for a stretch, seemed like he was bound for one every single night. He shot a career high 38.8% from deep and nearly 50% from the field, but most importantly, he proved that he was much more than a defensive player of the year candidate.

Last season Draymond proved that he could be a scoring option, as well as a facilitator on the offensive end. He is the only power forward I know to bring the ball up the court seemingly as much as the point guard. There is no doubt that last season was Green’s best season, and his 2k17 rating should be the best that we have ever seen.
